Those Who Tend the Flame Within Us

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.
~ Albert Schweitzer

The time we spend in meditation can create meaningful, positive change in our brains and in our hearts during our meditation time.  But it also shifts how we engage with life in every other moment of the day.

During our formal practice of Appreciative Joy, we pause to intentionally recognize the goodness of others. We rest in appreciation for the acts of kindness and support, large and small, of people we know, and people we don’t know.  And at the end of our formal practice, we have a sense of being held, and held up, by an entire team of people, and our hearts swell with gratitude.  What a joyful way to spend a small portion of our day!

But the carry-over effect is equally important and joy-inducing.  We have primed the pump to pay attention to and recognize the goodness that may otherwise exist but go unnoticed by us.  We become better equipped to see the full range of our daily experience, better able to behold and acknowledge the kindness of strangers, loved ones, and even those whose short-comings we have become well-practiced at seeing.  We come to realize how many people tend the flame within us.

This week we invite you to join us as we prime the pump to bear witness to the kindness around us and within us.

CMP survives on donations. All of our weekly sessions are free and open to the public, but donations are essential to our sustainability. Checks, cash and credit cards are accepted and donations are tax deductible.
